Home » Whole House Remodel – Second Floor, Vienna, VA

In 2014, the Mayor of Vienna, Virginia remodeled the main floor of her Colonial home with interior designer, Lori Graham (https://www.lorigraham.com). The project included a full kitchen remodel, great room remodel, reconfiguration of the living room and dining room, and installation of French doors from the living room to the pool. The renovation was highlighted in Washingtonian Magazine for its high-style-meets-cozy-design appeal.
When it was time to renovate the home’s second floor, the Mayor called upon the same interior designer and the expertise of Commonwealth Home Design. The design/build team reconfigured the existing master suite, hall bath, and attic over the garage, adding approximately 250sf over the garage for a sexy walk-in closet. The master bedroom was expanded to 19’-6”x15’-6”.
A new vestibule entry was created from the hall, allowing easy access to the bathroom and new walk-in closet without having to traverse the bedroom. This allows an early riser to get up and leave the bedroom to shower and fully dress without having to go back through the bedroom.
A custom master bath window and custom vanity have an industrial feel. The window has flat, black mullions, and a coating that allows a full view from the interior, with a muted mirror-like quality providing full privacy from the exterior. The shower is raised on a platform with a trench drain. The shower seat and shelves are mitered marble Calcutta Gold Honed floating box style slabs. The bathroom floor is black herringbone Nero Marquina Honed Marble. The shower floor is the same material in a smaller hexagon pattern. The highly textured, handmade-quality wall tile is Waterworks Grove Brickworks 2 3/8” x 8 ¼” Sugar White.
